Caorle Beach, Italy

Saturday, June 27

Preston and I had been wanting to go to the beach for a while now but every time we want to go it was always raining or nasty out. This weekend we were finally able to go! We ended up trying a new beach, Caorle, which is only about an hour from our house.

Caorle was a cute beach town, different than Lignano was, but I really like it. There were shops, restaurants and gelaterias all along the street and a few more right by the beach. We arrived in Caorle around lunch time so decided to just eat first before setting our towels out and having to pack up in a few minutes. We went to a place called La Gondola which was right off the main street and a block from the ocean. You could still see the beach line from where we sat at the restaurant.

I ended up getting taglierini with speck, porcini mushrooms and a cream sauce.

I don't know if I was just super hunger, but I devoured it. Same with Preston and his usual gnocchi dish, this time quattro formaggi gnocchi (four cheese potato dumplings)

Time to hit the beach!!

At a lot of Italian beaches the only place to put your own towel, beach chairs and umbrellas is right by the water. From the top of the sand to a certain point is all lounge chairs and umbrellas you rent for a certain amount of time. We always bring our own beach stuff. So we set up right by the water, which we like better than being further up. Plus, there wasn't as many people on the beach as I was expecting for a Saturday afternoon. Made it nicer for us!

Another thing I have noticed at the Italian beaches we have been to is that it doesn't get very deep when you walk in the water. We had to have walked out about 100m or more and it was still hadn't reached our hips.

Of course you can't go to the beach without getting a gelato.

Preston and I really enjoyed a relaxing day at the beach. Now we can't wait to go back to one! Hopefully this summer it will not rain as much as last year.
